RESUMÉ
Alice McColm studied fashion design at the London College of Fashion and Middlesex University.
She attended LCF from 2005-2007, completing a foundation degree in Fashion Design Technology-Designer Pattern Cutter. Whilst here, she won a design competition for the Teenage Cancer Trust and designed a range of contemporary ski jackets for Burton Skiwear.
In 2007, she gained direct entry to the second year, BA (hons) Fashion Design, at Middlesex University, where she continued to develop her skills in design, illustration, tailoring and garment construction. During industry experience term, she served a eight week internship with Agent Provocateur, a company she has always admired for their strong corporate image and beautiful lingerie collections. This experience proved particularly valuable,
when Alice McColm went on to design her own lingerie collection. She also assisted Emma Cook, model dressing, during London Fashion Week in 2007.
In her final year at Middlesex University, she designed a pre-collection inspired by the film Doctor Zhivargo, combining faux fur with delicate devoré velvet, to create an inspired autumn/winter collection. Following this success, her interest in fur developed, and she began to explore how fur could be used in new ways.
This lead to a partnership with Kopenhagen Fur, one of the world’s largest fur auction houses and leading provider of luxury fur. They invited her to their studios in Denmark, where she received expert advice and guidance whist planning her graduate collection.
Preliminary designs were submitted to Kopenhagen Fur, who were so impressed by Alice McColm’s innovative use of fur, they offered to sponsor her graduate collection. She returned to Denmark to oversee the production of garments that would become the Absinth Dream collection, inspired by Parisian culture in the 1920’s, in particular, posters for absinthe, the highly alcoholic spirit, and art deco tiffany lampshades.
